Irdeto Cloakware for Connected Transport Meets New U.S. Senate and House of Representatives Autonomous Car Security Requirements
AMSTERDAM – 26 October 2017 – Irdeto, the world leader in digital platform security, today announced that its Cloakware® for Connected Transport security solution meets all the stringent requirements set out in the American Vision for Safer Transportation through Advancement of Revolutionary Technologies Act (AV START Act), which passed the U.S. Senate on October 4. The bill is the latest move by the U.S. Government to help set cybersecurity standards for self-driving and autonomous car technology.
In addition to compliance with this most recent bill, Irdeto’s Cloakware for Connected Transport also complies with the requirements of the SELF-DRIVE Act, which is billed as “first-of-its-kind legislation to ensure the safe and innovative development, testing and deployment of self-driving cars.” The SELF DRIVE Act was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in September.
“The fact that both the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives have now approved self-driving car legislation means that we should see some near-term security improvements. We have pushed to ensure that key security features around protection, detection and response are included in the legislation. The AV START Act outlines that: “Each manufacturer of a highly automated vehicle or automated driving system shall develop, maintain and execute a written plan for identifying and reducing cybersecurity risks.” Section 14 of the bill cites the importance of risk-based prioritization, efficient detection, response, isolation and recovery. In addition to incorporating all of these security features into its solution, Cloakware also enables manufacturers and OEMs to ensure that even if a hacker finds a way to penetrate the perimeter, they won’t be able to hold the car hostage.
